MCKINNEY
PRAIRIE HOUSE
A Cherished Family Home, Reimagined for a New Generation of Guests
Project Description
McKinney Prairie House | Texas-Inspired Airbnb Design
Some of the most meaningful design projects begin with a story. For this charming home in McKinney, Texas, that story was one of family, preservation, and new beginnings.
When the homeowner’s mother transitioned into assisted living, the family faced an important decision about the future of her beloved home. Rather than selling the property, they envisioned a way to preserve its character and family history while giving it a new purpose. They partnered with EDENbyDESIGN to transform the residence into a distinctive short-term rental that would welcome visitors from near and far.
The design vision was inspired by the timeless charm of a traditional Texas prairie home, blending rustic authenticity, vintage character, and subtle bohemian influences with the modern comforts today’s travelers expect. Our goal was to create an experience that felt less like a conventional Airbnb and more like stepping into a beautifully curated home with a story to tell.
Honoring the Past Through Thoughtful Design
One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was incorporating the family’s existing collection of furniture, artwork, and decorative treasures. Rather than starting from scratch, we embraced these pieces as the foundation of the design, celebrating their individuality and the personal history they brought to the home.
Working closely with the client, EDENbyDESIGN developed a cohesive design direction that complemented these cherished furnishings while introducing carefully selected new pieces, textures, and finishes. Every selection was intended to enhance the home’s authentic Texas character while creating a welcoming, comfortable environment for guests.
The result is an eclectic yet harmonious blend of old and new, where vintage-inspired furnishings, natural materials, warm textures, and distinctive artwork come together to create an atmosphere that feels collected over time.
A Touch of Local Artistry
To further celebrate the home’s connection to Texas, we collaborated with talented local muralist C. Joseph Art, whose artistic contribution brought another layer of personality and creativity to the property.
This collaboration reinforced our commitment to creating spaces that tell a story, celebrate local talent, and offer guests something truly memorable.
A Collaborative Approach to Short-Term Rental Design
This project is also a wonderful example of EDENbyDESIGN’s flexible approach to short-term rental design.
Through our Tier Two Airbnb Design Services, we provided the creative vision, design guidance, furniture and décor recommendations, and curated selections, while the client took an active role in purchasing materials and executing much of the installation.
This collaborative process allowed the homeowners to remain closely involved in the transformation while benefiting from professional design expertise to ensure a cohesive, thoughtfully executed result.
From Family Home to Booked Airbnb
The success of the transformation was evident almost immediately. Upon completion, the property began receiving bookings, marking an exciting new chapter for this treasured family home.
What was once a private residence filled with family memories is now a welcoming destination where visitors can experience the warmth, charm, and character of Texas living.
At EDENbyDESIGN, we believe great design goes beyond beautiful interiors. It creates experiences, honors meaningful stories, and helps properties realize their full potential.
We are incredibly proud of this transformation and grateful to have collaborated with the homeowners and local artists to give this special McKinney home a beautiful new beginning.
